You Are My Child
It's true that you did not come from my womb.
You grew first in my dreams and then in my heart.
You were the culmination of many miracles.
And when I held you in my arms,
I thanked God for the miracle of you.
And silently I thanked God for the brave young woman
who gave you life...and who let go,
So you could come to us.
I know you wonder about her and feel there are missing parts
in your life,
But never doubt that she loved you with all her heart.
It takes great courage to give such a gift and
The endurance of much pain and a lifelong sense of loss.
Now you are grown and wondering about your past.
You hide the inquiries and the questions and even your pain from me.
I wonder if it is because you want to hug it to yourself or
Do you think you are protecting me?
You are MY child in all ways and I have no fear
That that will change.
She gave birth to you, but your father and I gave you a life.
We love you beyond measure and time.
Crossing the gap to find your birth parents
Does not threaten us or make us less...
We are your parents.
Go ahead and make that journey back to the beginning...
We will gladly hold your hand, or walk with you, or
Wait here when you find your way back.
You are MY child, now and forever.
Believe, and be whole.
